Course Compare recently recognized Yorkville University’s Bachelor of Interior Design program as one of its Top 5 Best Interior Design Programs in Canada of 2026.

As Canada’s leading marketplace for comparing schools, courses and tuition, CourseCompare bases its rankings on several factors, starting with accreditation from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), a credential widely respected by employers and required for registration with interior design regulatory bodies in provinces including Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan. The list also weighs internship opportunities, exposure to industry-standard design technology, and outcomes data such as student retention, graduation and job placement rates.

In its annual rankings, CourseCompare lauded the BID program for being the only CIDA-accredited Bachelor of Interior Design in Canada offered fully online without a residency requirement. It also noted that Yorkville students can choose between on-campus and online learning streams, with new intakes offered quarterly throughout the year. In addition to CIDA accreditation, the program is recognized by the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) and Interior Designers of Canada (IDC).

The BID curriculum at Yorkville, CourseCompare noted, prepares students to design across a range of vertical markets, including hospitality, healthcare, retail and residential spaces, while also building technical fluency in tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and Photoshop. Each student, it added, also completes 20 volunteer community service hours and 180 hours of supervised internship with a design firm before graduating.

Graduates like Class of 2022 alum Martine Lapointe praised the program for its flexibility and depth on CourseCompare’s reviews page, describing Yorkville’s BID program as a “wonderful experience.”

“I particularly enjoyed this program for its overall quality and flexibility – I was able to continue working throughout the program, even with children to attend to, progressing at my own pace while making the most of the very thorough course material,” she wrote, noting that she graduated with a degree that is both relevant and current with industry’s state and evolving trends.

“Even while studying online, I enjoyed rich exchanges and relationships with my peers, faculty members, professors and instructors, who were beyond wonderful in sharing their knowledge in a way that kept us engaged and committed to our own success.”
