Statement of Solidarity Against Islamophobia and Hate-Motivated Attacks

Yorkville University expresses its heartfelt condolences to the affected family members and the Muslim community after the horrific hate-motivated attack on a Muslim family in London, Ontario.

Islamophobia, anti-Muslim sentiment and hatred of any community are unacceptable and have no place in Canada or elsewhere. We stand in solidarity with our Muslim students, faculty and staff during this painful and difficult time.

For any of our students, staff and faculty who may be experiencing distress and challenges during this time, there are support services available to assist. Please feel free to contact the necessary resources below:

To learn more about the prevalence of Islamophobic and anti-Muslim incidents in Canada, please visit the National Council of Canadian Muslims website, which tracks these incidents, encourages reporting them, and raises awareness about combatting Islamophobia.

Our YU Faculty and Staff/Student Diversity Advisory Councils are also available to hear your feedback on how we can proactively address attitudes and actions related to Islamophobia and racism. Please feel free to reach out to any member to raise feedback that you might have.

Please know that during this extremely distressing time, you are not alone. You are heard, seen, and valued as a member of the YU community, and we will always stand alongside you in making sure that you feel welcomed and included.

Yours sincerely,

Rick Davey
