Meet Yorkville University’s Chair of the Bachelor of Interior Design Program

Not only is Sheri Crawford an accomplished designer active in influencing the aesthetic and functional landscape of interior spaces throughout Ontario with SLC Designs Ltd., but she is also the President of the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) and the Chair of the Bachelor of Interior Design Program at Yorkville University and an alumnus of that very program.

Interior Design as an area of theoretical study is familiar to Crawford through her own experience as a working design professional as well as academically.  After completing the Bachelor of Interior Design at Yorkville University in 2013, Crawford went on to earn a Master of Art in Interior Design, with a research focus on perspectives of Interior Design as a profession. As a student, a professor, and now as Chair, Yorkville’s BID curriculum has always impressed Crawford.

“I was really excited about how advanced the Yorkville program is,” Crawford said.

In her role as the chair Crawford succeeded former Chair Erin Jenner, a fellow Yorkville alumnus, who continues to teach in the program after having spearheaded several initiatives as Chair. These include changes made to program requirements in order to ensure the highest accreditation standards within the interior design industry, not to mention updates to the BID curriculum itself. As Chair of Yorkville’s BID, Crawford seeks to continue the trajectory that Jenner began.

“I join[ed] Yorkville to help Erin continue what she started,” Crawford said.  “Erin had such vision and excitement for the program, and I’m committed to continuing to make the program even more relevant and bringing in more industry knowledge, especially as I’m a practising Interior Designer myself.”

Interior Design is a field that is constantly evolving.  Considering Yorkville University’s dedication to practitioner-oriented education, Crawford’s forward-thinking perspective is exactly the orientation required for positive momentum, and her position as President of ARIDO gives her further insight into the needs of both students and the industry itself.

“There are so many things happening in the interior design profession—it’s changing a lot,” Crawford confirmed.  “I’m looking forward to furthering the profession through Yorkville, and to working with our amazing students who really make the job so exciting.”
