MACP Alumnus Reviews Fellow Grad Juliann Rasanayagam’s Book DIY Anger Kit

One of the many highlights of the Yorkville University Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) is the opportunity to connect and share with a rich community of like-minded learners; an experience that extends beyond the online classroom and graduation, to the Yorkville Alumni network. Schlomo Radcliffe is a Toronto-based psychotherapist who graduated from the MACP in 2017. He had the opportunity recently to read colleague and fellow graduate Juliann Rasanayagam’s new book, “DIY Anger Kit“. Following is Radcliffe’s review.

Everyone experiences anger in their lives, yet, the situations, challenges, and concerns that can come along with this powerful emotion are different for each of us. This is the premise behind DIY Anger Kit the new anger management workbook and toolkit created by Juliann Rasanayagam, MACP. Recognizing that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach that will help individuals manage their unique anger profile, Rasanayagam, a Yorkville University graduate,  set out to create a resource that would provide insight, guidance, and support for people seeking tools to help them manage the individual anger triggers, behaviours, and challenges they are dealing with. DIY Anger Kit is the fruit of those efforts and succeeds in providing a one-stop shop for anyone looking to reduce the effects of anger in their life.

Drawing on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and mindfulness, Rasanayagam provides the reader with accessible tools that will help them identify the characteristics of their own anger and learn how to effectively reduce it. The tools and strategies discussed are clearly explained and practical, making them easy to pick up and put into action. Numerous exercises and vignettes throughout the workbook

ensure that the material is understood not only intellectually but at an experiential level as well. In particular, Rasanayagam succeeds in providing an approach that is broad enough to apply to a range of anger profiles, yet nonetheless remains idiosyncratic. No matter how anger takes shape in your life, you will find something in here for you. DIY Anger Kit is a practical and helpful resource for anyone struggling with the effects of anger in their life.
