Smarthinking: YU Piloting a Tutoring Service

Student Stories

Written by Erin Hatfield

Yorkville University is piloting a 24/7 tutoring service called “Smarthinking”, but this free service trial expires at the end of 2015.

This is a free service to students to provide additional writing support. For example, you can submit an essay to Smarthinking for an evaluation. Upon request from Yorkville University you will be allotted 2 hours of tutoring to start with, but you “do not” have to use the entire time in one session. The primary way you access a tutor is via the “Drop In” option.

The average waiting time is approximately 3-4 minutes for tutoring support access so there is no need for making an appointment, though you are welcome to use that feature.

To sign up to a Smarthinking account, please provide the following information:

1) Your Time Zone

2) Postal Code

3) Country of Access

4) Course Code (BUSI 1013, etc.)

5) Instructor

6) Send the request to “Amy Finnie” [email protected]
