Scholarship Opportunities
In memory of their father, Michael C. Markovitz , Ph.D. and Lawrence J. Markovitz, M.D. established the Jacob Markovitz Memorial Scholarship Fund in 1987. Throughout his life Jacob Markovitz followed the Biblical injunction of charity and showing kindness to strangers. We are delighted that funds are available at Yorkville University to carry on this good work. Throughout the years, these scholarships have supported many graduate students in the helping professions at a number of academic institutions.
The Jacob Markovitz Memorial Scholarship is a need based scholarship that is available to new students for their first trimester of studies in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Between two and four are awarded annually. For students enrolled in graduate programs, each scholarship is worth fifty percent of first year tuition. The scholarship is awarded two weeks after the beginning of classes. Applicants selected for scholarships, who have received official notification that they have been awarded a scholarship, are required to substantiate need by submitting a notarized copy of the previous year’s Revenue Canada Tax Assessment. The scholarship application, personal statement, and supporting documents should be sent to:

or by fax to 1-506-454-1221
All students with Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status in Canada, who have submitted a complete application to the program, are eligible to apply. Please note the following rules which must be followed in order to apply for a scholarship.
- Applications for the scholarship may be completed only after a completed application for admission to the MACP is submitted to the admission committee.
- Only applicants applying to begin the program may apply for this scholarship. The scholarship is not available to current students.
- If you are granted a scholarship you must maintain a 3.0 average in each trimester for the duration of your scholarship grant. Your scholarship will be withdrawn if your grade point average falls below 3.0.
- You must complete and submit a scholarship application form. Scholarship applications must be submitted no later than the deadline to complete applications for admission. Please check the academic calendar for the appropriate deadlines. Applications for scholarships will not be accepted after these deadlines.
- Scholarship applications are due on the same day as applications for the program (see academic calendar).
The scholarship application form is available once you have completed and submitted an application for admission to the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Program.
All decisions regarding the granting of scholarships will be made by the Markovitz family, in their sole discretion and judgment. Though each case will be judged individually, scholarship applicants should, to the extent possible, expect to contribute to their own education through the use of some personal and family funds, some government subsidized and/or guaranteed student loans, and some private bank loan programs as may be specifically designed for students studying in the professions.
