Genetics notwithstanding, health behaviors are the single most important variable in determining who gets sick and who remains well. This course provides an understanding of the role of behavior in chronic illness. Topics include an introduction to behavioral epidemiology, the role of nutrition and exercise and overweight / obesity in disease, and adherence to medical regimens. Students will learn the basic principles involved in designing appropriate lifestyle interventions.
