Masters of Education in Adult Education Offered
A Masters of Education in Adult Education will be offered through online delivery at Yorkville University starting January 2012
On Monday October 24, the Honourable Martine Coulombe, the Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour in New Brunswick granted Yorkville University consent to offer a Masters in Education in Adult Education through online delivery.
The Masters of Education in Adult Education will immediately begin enrolling for its first class which is scheduled to start in January 2012. This Masters program will prepare students for a variety of instructional and administrative roles in private and public post-secondary institutions, including universities, colleges, polytechnics, vocational schools, adult literacy programs, and adult second language schools. This degree is also ideal for students who are employed in human resources departments, administrative positions in non-profit organizations, corporate training, healthcare and public health, health and safety, or in other capacities in private business and government.
“There are only a small number of education institutions in North America that offer this type of degree.” said Dr. Rick Davey, President of Yorkville University. “This program enables adult educators to complement their practical work experiences with formal training.”
Dorothy MacKeracher, Dean of Education at Yorkville, also commented on the Minister’s announcement: “This program is designed to offer flexibility for adult educators to continue working as they complete their degree. The online delivery of courses uses modern teaching methods to deliver a robust and thorough curriculum that is at par with in-class delivery.”
This program is offered fully online and has no residency component; students do not have to travel to New Brunswick in order to complete the program. Students are eligible to graduate after completing ten courses over five terms and either a major academic paper or a practicum as a capstone project. The practicum can be completed within the student’s home region. The entire program can be completed within 24 months of consecutive study.
