It’s an exciting time for the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) Degree in Yorkville University’s Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, according to the program’s Dean and Associate Dean.
Dr. Helen Massfeller, Ph.D., R. Psych., CCC, Dean of the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences at Yorkville University, and her Associate Dean, Dr. Roberta Neault, CCC, GCDFi, CCDP said the MACP has steadily grown in size and reputation to become one of the University’s flagship programs and that will continue through 2015.
“I’m really excited about what our program can offer students,” Massfeller said.
Yorkville University’s online and practicum-based MACP, helps students build bridges to their future career goals and aspirations while offering them the flexibility to maintain commitments to employment and family, Massfeller said.
A 30-month degree that prepares graduates for a career in the field of counselling psychology, the women said they plan to continue to work to see the MACP gain international recognition.
“Our goal in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology is to build an exemplary program that gains international recognition for the quality of counsellor education,” Massfeller explained.
Massfeller went on to say that comes through elements of the MACP Degree such as the flexibility of the program, the quality of the instructors and course elements like the vast array of electives students have to choose from.
“The flexibility of the program now, in terms of choice in areas of specialization is pretty remarkable,” Neault added. “And also our curriculum is now vetted by a number of professionals and so, when a course is designed and launched it has had input from some pretty amazing people.”
Students can now choose from popular electives like the addictions course, the can choose to specialize in school counselling or health and wellness.
“No matter what area of practice people are going into there is an elective there that they can choose from,” Neault said.
Neault went on to say the MACP Degree at Yorkville is, and will continue to, contribute to a much larger community.
“I see our students as part of this community that we are building, where they in turn will become our practicum hosts in the future. And where we are working with instructors that are also able to host students and in some cases hire them into their clinical practice later.”
