Librarian (Steeles)

Yorkville University seeks an enthusiastic, collaborative individual to serve as the permanent, full-time Librarian to provide key library services at the Steeles campus in Concord, Ontario.

In addition to the daily management of the library facilities, the successful candidate will also coordinate activities with direction from the University Librarian through weekly management meetings, as well as provide library services to both on-site and online students, staff, and faculty.  This role will also serve as a liaison to various committees e.g. Curriculum.

Yorkville University currently provides courses in General Studies, Interior Design, Psychology, Education, and Business (primarily online). The Librarian will provide support for all subjects, where relevant, but be designated as the Business Liaison Librarian (and possibly other liaison duties), helping to build support for both BBA and MBA programs.

Job Duties:

  • Daily on-campus management of a small, campus library reporting to the University Librarian.
  • Research and reference support to both online and on-campus population.
  • Collecting relevant reference statistics (e.g., entered using Google Forms).
  • Creating online learning objects and tutorials (e.g., Library Orientations)
  • Working closely with key individuals, such as Deans, Instructional Design professionals, Instructors, Course Developers, and other Academic Support staff.
  • Hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of students in library.
  • Circulation duties (e.g., checking in & out resources, overdue retrieval, etc.).
  • Collection Management & Development (e.g., reviewing resources supportive of programs, renewing journal databases, choosing new resources etc.).
  • Acquisitions (e.g., submitting purchase orders, follow-up, receiving).
  • Cataloguing & resource management with Follet Destiny Software (e.g., DDC & LC).
  • Textbook management duties as required (e.g., Booklists, liaison to the program chairs and university bookstore).
  • Other administrative duties as required (e.g., creating student cards, invigilating exams etc.).

Job  Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited Masters in Library and/or Information Management.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a librarian.
  • Experience supporting Business librarianship (or professional knowledge of the field)
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with students, faculty, and administration.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and collaborative approach to working with others.
  • Experience and willingness to hire, train, and manage student library workers.
  • Positive attitude for multi-tasking in a busy, small campus library with many small tasks.
  • Experience providing information literacy sessions on-campus or online (e.g., using Skype, Omnijoin, etc.)
  • Experience creating online tutorials (e.g., using software such as Adobe Captivate, iSpring/PowerPoint, Sway, etc.)
  • Competence using Office 365/MS Office and excellent computer proficiency.
  • High degree of proficiency in written and spoken English is vital.
  • Experience with Moodle LMS and/or WordPress.
  • Experience with APA format and citation style.
  • Knowledge of basic cataloguing (Library of Congress) (using Follet software).
