Yorkville University seeks a champion of creative industries to lead the development and implementation of a unique undergraduate degree program in creative arts.

The Opportunity

The Bachelor of Creative Arts is a degree completion program for graduates of the Toronto Film School and other creative arts diploma programs.  The program’s goal is to develop degree-level critical and creative competencies to advance graduates’ career opportunities.

    • Finalize the design and structure of the program, including the program’s learning objectives, student outcomes, and courses.
    • Approve the list of potential faculty members to be attached to the program, including those who will develop course outlines for the program proposal.
  • Be the chief spokesperson for the Bachelor of Creative Arts program throughout regulatory review process and after: promote the program to potential students, creative industries, and the general public.
  • Manage the program roll-out and the day-to-day management of the program when it receives Ministerial consent, including academic governance processes—admissions, faculty hiring, curriculum development and review—and academic administration.

  • The Program Founder should have a reputation and track record based on professional, scholarly, and/or creative activity in one of the creative industries.
  • University teaching and administration or equivalent (arts management). Preferrably service as a member of faculty in a post-secondary degree program in a discipline related to the creative arts; experience to include course development, teaching, academic quality assurance, faculty recruitment and evaluation.

  • An earned doctoral degree (or other terminal degree) in a discipline related to the creative arts.

The Assignment

This leadership opportunity breaks down into three phases:

  1. Program Submission: Currently, the program submission is in draft stage. The incumbent would be hired on a contractual basis to finalize the submission and to submit it to Ontario’s Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development.

The incumbent will have these supports and resources, which are already in place:  an advisory committee comprised of professionals from a number of creative industries; a faculty committee composed of Toronto Film School instructors and Yorkville University faculty members; a consultant with significant experience developing proposals for submission to regulators; Yorkville University’s Office of National Regulatory and Government Affairs.

  1. Quality Assurance Review: The program founder will represent the program when the Quality Assessment Panel conducts a site visit. In addition to preparing for and leading the Yorkville University team at the site visit, the incumbent will develop any required responses to the PEQAB assessment.
  2. Program Rollout: When the program receives Ministerial consent, the position becomes a full-time University appointment.

Timeline:  Typically, new degree programs subject to Ontario’s Post-Secondary Choice and Excellence Act (1999) take up to 18 months to receive Ministerial consent.   This is a career planning opportunity.

Location:  Once the program is approved, the incumbent will be located in the Greater Toronto Region and will work at the Yorkville University/Ontario campus.  Until the program receives consent, the Program Founder will work remotely.
