Accreditation and Approvals
In Canada there is no centralized accreditation process. In the US, the “quality control” process and institutional assessments and accreditations are administered by one of six regional private accrediting agencies. In Canada, as in most other countries, the function of institutional accreditation and quality control is taken as an obligation of government and is performed on a provincial basis by the appropriate Ministry assigned the task of managing implementation of the legislation governing the regulation of post-secondary degree granting institutions. Across Canada, the various provincial ministries conduct in-depth assessments and analysis of institutional curricular content and institutional characteristics prior to awarding degree granting status.
After a rigorous assessment process, Yorkville University was granted both University status, and approved to offer an Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree by the New Brunswick Department of Education in 2004.
